my name is olivia & this is my mom Diane.

on Thursday, may 22nd she got off work and went to Publix — when she got home, she was getting out of her car and felt a weird sensation in her throat and tightness in her chest. she put her leg out to try to get out of the car and fell flat in her driveway unable to move for about 30 minutes. by the time she got into her house, she wasn’t able to walk at all. her neighbor checked her blood pressure and it was 60/38 so we called 911 immediately and when the paramedics assessed her, we noticed that her legs and left arm were non functional. she was rushed to the emergency room where we then discovered she had a mini stroke and had an aortic dissection. she had to have an emergency 6 hour surgery to replace the aortic valve. thankfully she made it through surgery although she only had a 5% chance of doing so. she has since been intubated in cardiac ICU making small progress day by. as of today, may 26th, she’s been awake and the ventilator was removed, but she still has a long road ahead of recovery.

before this happened, she had been searching for work for a year and a half and she had finally found a job that she enjoyed. with the uncertainty of how long she’s going to be in the hospital and not knowing if she’ll be able to return to work or even if she’ll still have a job when this is all said and done, her finances are going to take a hit.
