Help Daniel and his Family Stay in Canada

Donation protected
Recently, I have had the pleasure to meet and get to know a very nice family of four who immigrated from Mexico to Canada in 2015.  They chose to leave Mexico after being victims of violence there.  Daniel, the father was abducted after locking up his business one evening and held hostage while his store was robbed by the perpetrators.  Obviously, the whole family was traumatized by this event and Daniel and his wife Jaqueline made the decision to leave Mexico and move to Canada so their children aged one and six, at the time, could be brought up in a safer environment.  They hired an immigration service on the internet that advertised easy access into Canada for the purposes of obtaining Canadian citizenship.  Unknown to them at the time, this service was actually a bogus shell company that was run by offshore operators who took their money and left them stranded in Montreal with not only very little money but also, with no knowledge of the French language.

Upon visiting the local immigration office to discuss their dilemma they discovered that the company they used had not filled out the required paperwork properly, as they were only interested in expediting the process.  Unable to help them, the family decided to come to Ontario as they were somewhat familiar with the English language and felt that there were better economic opportunities available there.

Upon relocating to Southwestern Ontario, they have worked to raise their own money by doing odd jobs like lawn cutting, snow removal, cooking, cleaning houses and buying and selling items that they fix themselves.  The children have adapted into the community extremely well and even attend the local school, and have made many friends along the way.  In fact, English has now become their language of choice.  Jacqueline, Daniel’s wife has volunteered her time at many local clubs and their children also participate various local sports programs, making them feel that they are now part of their community.

Recently the family had restarted the process to obtain their Canadian citizenship by hiring a lawyer however, due to the fact that their original application was not filled out properly, they were issued a legal notice by the Immigration Department to depart Canada and return to Mexico within the next few weeks on a direct flight, even though direct flights are currently suspended due to COVID.

This obviously has once again traumatized the family especially the children who now have made Canada their new home.  Daniel and his wife want to appeal the decision in the Federal Court system however, they have exhausted their funds due to the costs incurred by their past legal expenses and find themselves with no other choice but having to return back to Mexico if they are not able to proceed with the appeal.

This page has been created to help the family raise enough money to hire an immigration lawyer that specializes in these types of situations.  A preliminary meeting with this lawyer leads them to believe that there still may be some hope for them after he carefully read and reviewed the previous judges’ decision and found that some details relevant to their case may have been left out.  It is also important to keep in mind that the family has never received any government money directly thus far as they have provided for themselves with all of their needs, including paying out of pocket for any incurred past medical expenses.  If allowed to stay in Canada, Daniel has a guaranteed job waiting for him, but that is dependent on his ability to obtain a temporary work visa until his citizenship is processed.

Any donations to help this family with their plight would be greatly appreciated as they truly want to raise their family here and make Canada their permanent home.
