Help Lorenzo Segura & Family

Monday February 15, 2016 our life had been turned up side down. Our little Lorenzo decided to enter this world at 26 weeks premature, with no real explanation, weighing only 2lbs 8oz. After an emergency c-section, hearing Lorenzos tiny little cry was the best sound we heard all day even if it was for a moment. The doctors scooped him away so quickly, we were only able to see him for a moment. The team from Albany Medical Center was at Bellevue within the hour to transport Lorenzo to Albany Med NICU before I was even out of the recovery room from surgery. Everything happened so quickly, we didn't even have time to process what was happening and not realizing that we wouldn't even get to hold our baby until 5 days later, a feeling you can't even begin to understand. Sitting in a hospital room for 5 days after giving birth and not even seeing him besides photos, I can't even begin to explain.
Doctors & nurses tell us it's going to be a roller coaster and that's exactly what it has been. Lorenzo has good days and bad days, we crave for the good news and dread the bad, they say not to google anything yet that is exactly what we do, to understand- Every. Single. Medical term. They are right, don't google. Everything is worse case scenario. C-pap, NEC, High flow, oxygen levels, bowl rest, infections, antibiotics, pic line, ivs & the list goes on. Our mind goes crazy with all the information we are given about our little fighter Lorenzo. Seeing him work so hard to live every day and as parents we feel so helpless. We want to fix everything for him but we are so nervous to even hold him, he's so small yet so strong.
This is our new normal, the Drs say to expect Lorenzo to be home by his due date which is May 18th. We are on day 32 and just want him home with us and to meet his big brother Mario.
We have been so incredibly lucky to be surrounded by such wonderful family and friends and support system. The nurses are all great. We know Lorenzo is in good hands each day. Your thoughts and prayers have been amazing and help us stay positive each day and we thank you so much.

While Loenezo has received world-class care at Albany Med, Leonel & Jess are left with overwhelming medical bills. This fundraiser is organized by friends who have known them for years. We have watched Leonel & Jess handle this situation with determination and grace. They have asked no one for help, but we would love to alleviate a small piece of their financial burden so that they can focus on caring for their beautiful baby boy. Any gift - no matter how small - will be a huge help to the Segura family. Thank you for your continued prayers, love and support!
