Jett's Battle
Donation protected
Hello my name is Theresa Hills from Ardrossan Alberta. Last weekend my husband was walking our 2 pitbulls, Jett and Dallas in a wooded area near our home when Jett found a porcupine. Being young and curious he got too close and the result was about a 1000 quills in his face and head. As my panicked husband struggled to get the dogs away he was bit on the knee by the porcupine, resulting in a series of rabies shots as precaution.
Knowing it would be an impossible task to remove the quills without sedation, the dogs were immediately taken to the veterinarian in Sherwood Park. After 3 hours of surgery and hundreds of quills removed, Jett is still not "out of the woods". He's been back to the vet 2 more times this week and was sedated again to remove quills from his eyelids, inside his mouth, nostrils and feet. Apparently some of the quills are located behind his eye near the optic nerve. If they migrate the wrong way he could lose his sight or they could enter his brain.
This dog means everything to us and to many others including the veterans he goes to visit at my father's long term care residence.
Each visit to the vet means the bills are adding up and there will undoubtedly be more. We are gratefully and humbly looking for support to offset this unexpected expense.
In our effort to turn a negative experience into a positive action, any amount over and above what is needed to cover the veterinary expenses will be donated equally to SCARS (Second Chance Animal Rescue Society) and Pitbulls for Life.
Thank you for your consideration.
