Jett's Journey: Cleft Lip & Palate Recovery.

Our son Jett was born on March 7th 2025. He came two weeks early and was born with unilateral cleft lip and palate. He spent a total of 6 days in the NICU on a CPAP machine since he had liquid in his lung due to it not being fully developed. His breathing wasn’t as it should. He also required a feeding tube. Our insurance has informed us that they don’t think that his stay in the NICU was deemed medically necessary and that they wouldn’t cover the 6 days he spent there which will now cost us thousands of dollars per each of those days.
After lots of thought and consideration we decided to have him treated with what we think is the best care by taking him to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, however that’s an over 2 hour commute each way to make their weekly appointments. They told us we had to do what they call “taping” to help bring his gap closer in order to give him the best chances of having the easiest surgery. Following the taping they also recommended we do what they call NAM which again insurance doesn’t cover completely and that alone is around 9 thousand dollars. Also, in order to alleviate some of his stress and discomfort from not only the drive, but the procedures being done we've find ourselves occasionally getting a hotel for the night as it's just emotionally and mentally draining for us all.
Our first scheduled surgery is taking place in August of this year and that’s to repair his lip and a part of his palate, as well as tubes due to the fluid in his ears. If that goes well he currently has his second surgery scheduled for December 2025.
We’re asking for any and allbsupport in order to help us with the accumulating medical bills and the time off of work we will have to take in order to make said appointments and care for our child during this emotional roller coaster that’s much needed in order to give our baby the best chances of having a “normal” childhood with the absolute best recovery possible.
Jett has already proven to be a resilient and strong little boy through this and has done so good with all the medical obstacles thus far since his birth.
Any help and support would be very much appreciated and would go a long way in trying to manage paying all these unknown bills out of pocket. Thank you so much and God bless!! Yuli & Johnny.
