Jett's veterinary expenses

As many of you know, the unexpected passing of Kristi Havens meant that her beloved puppy "Jett" needed to be rehomed. As Jett's original foster family, it made sense for her to come back to our home and we are happy to have her with us. Jett is taking the loss of her mother very hard and she had a rough first night at our house due to severe gastric upset. By mid-morning today, Jett started vomiting blood, which meant a trip to an emergency veterinarian. Both Kristi's veterinarian and my family veterinarian agreed that the best option was to race her over to the UT School of Veterinary Medicine because of their advanced imaging capabilities. The immediate concern was that Jett had passed some string and fibers, so the fear was that she may have a bowel obstruction.
We're thankful that the veterinarians at UT do not think she needs surgery. Imagining revealed that she does have some objects in her digestive tract, but her body is trying to dispell them naturally. However, an ultrasound did show that Jett may also have an ulcer. If that is the case, she will need ongoing treatment for that.
Jett had superb care at the Vet School. They sedated her and conducted an examination which resulted in the removal of a good deal of string which is shoelace like in texture and some sharp hard material that feels like calcified rubber or hard plastic. They sent her home with medications, special bland food, and a care plan that includes a follow-up with one of our family veterinarians in a week or so.
She is at home now, but still continuing to have a very upset stomach despite being on strong anti-nausea meds. If it doesn't improve overnight, we'll need to bring her back to the vet school.
The cost for the treatment and tests that were conducted today at UT is just under $700.00. I am not sure whether there will be a need for more medications. We'll know more after she has a follow-up vet appointment, which I expect will cost about $100.00 give or take.
I just know in my heart that Kristi would be deeply touched that her family and so many of her friends and colleagues have offered to help in the care of Jett and encouraged me to set up this Go Fund Me. For myself, I am deeply touched by your kindness and genuine concern for the puppy Kristi loved so well.
One of Kristi's main concerns as she communicated her own need for medical intervention is reported to have been about Jett--that she needed to make sure that Jett would be okay and taken care of.
Since learning that Jett's care was one of Kristi's final requests, I can't begin to express with any level of adequacy how meaningful it is to me that Kristi's friends and colleagues have expressed a desire to donate in support of my care of Jett.
We are all helpless against death, but we can do this one thing for our dear friend Kristi. We can make sure Jett is okay and lives the great life that Kristi was providing for her and would continue doing if she could.
Thank you to all of you for helping in that effort and for being such caring, generous, and just straight up amazing friends and colleagues.
With or without help, I would and will make sure Jett receives the best care possible. That said, any help you can spare to offset some of these unexpected veterinary expenses is not only appreciated, but it is also especially moving given the circumstances.
The image here shows how sad Jett's expression became yesterday after the fun of playing with her siblings wore off a bit. She misses her momma to the point of sickness. That is a loyalty and love I intend to honor for the rest of this sweet dog's life.
