Last Monday, my 13-year-old brother Jett was involved in an accident that will be requiring a very long and hard recovery. Jett was a victim of a gunshot wound to the face and will be having many jaw reconstructive surgeries.  He has been in the hospital since last Monday night and has had two surgeries thus far. In his first surgery (10.16), they removed his left lower jaw, chin, teeth on the left side and wired his jaw shut. Since then, he has been recovering and the team has been evaluating whether or not the residual tissue is able to be recovered.  His second surgery (10.21) and first reconstructive surgery was done to put plates in his mandible (right and left side of the lower jaw). They were hoping to be able to do the whole surgery through his mouth, however, during surgery, they had to make a large incision in his neck to be able to have enough room for the surgery. He is now recovering from the second surgery and will have his jaw wired shut TBD when it will be unwired. I wanted to make a GoFundMe for Jett and to take the financial pressure of this traumatic event off my mom because as an only parent, this has been a lot for her. 

What we are focusing on now is getting him healed and as comfortable as he can be. Any donation helps, as this will be a long and expensive recovery. Donations will go towards several things such as therapy, special food needs, possible homeschooling, future surgeries and treatments, and anything to help him stay comfortable. 

A bond for the suspect has been set at $750,000 and our family is under a criminal protection order from the state of Colorado. The charges were presented to the suspect today in court and he will enter a plea agreement this Wednesday, October 23rd. We are safe and our main focus right now is Jett's recovery.

This entire event has had a very large impact on not only Jett’s physical well being but also his mental well being. He is having a hard time staying positive and in good spirits, so any kind words and thoughts will help him right now. He is also having a very rough time getting used to his new form of nutrition. If anyone has any suggestions about foods for him to try that don't require chewing/can be eaten through a straw, please let us know!
