Update
2/18 Jet is doing well. Today was a good day. He was able to go outside to pee today! The past couple days he didn’t want to stand much. He has a long road of recovery ahead, but Brian and him are determined and on the right path.
2/14 he’s back home with his dad and recovering, following the rehab protocol. Using a sling to take him out/get him to stand. Happy to be home and happy to have him home!
2/13 he is recovering steadily. He went outside and peed today. He is weaning off of IV meds and starting oral meds. Should be able to come home on Thursday!!
2/12 Tufts called and his surgery went well! He is recovering and will be there for a few more days.
Hi, my name is Nicole and I am writing for my dad Brian and his beloved dog Jet (1 year old border collie). After a nice hike on Saturday 2/10/24 at Lake Dennison like they do every Saturday, Jet escaped my dad's car in New Braintree when he stopped to get out and got traumatically hit by a car. My dad and a kind lady who stopped to help him were trying to call Jet when they saw a white mini van approaching. They were yelling and waving for the car to stop and unfortunately the car continued to drive at about 50 miles per hour and hit Jet and did not stop.
My dad rushed him to Tufts to receive the Emergency Care that he needed. After x-rays and CT scans, they found he has a fractured neck and 4 fractures in his pelvis. 2 of the fractures require surgery and the others should heal non-operatively. He is expected to be in Tufts for (hopefully) a week. He is alert and being an excellent patient which is great news! The prognosis for him is looking good after surgery.
Jet is my dad's LIFE and he has never spent time apart from him. He goes to work with him everyday at Family Farms, a convenient store in Malborough, and makes the customers smile. He loves going to work, and his happy smile will be missed at Family Farms while he is recovering. Anything will help to support the burden of the medical bills, bring Jet home, and get him back to work! Thank you in advance for your consideration and thoughts. With love,
Jet and Brian
