Hope for Jess
Donation protected
My name is Jess. I'm 30 years old, I have a 3 year old daughter called Darcy and I am looking for a miracle to help me beat cancer.
I didn't want to set up this page if I'm honest as no one likes asking for money but my friends said I was daft as everyone that hears my story wants to help me however they can. I have an amazing support network of kind people and my friends have said that people will like being able to help in a practical way. I hope that's true!
I'll tell you more about my story below but to cut to the chase, the reason I have started this page is because fighting cancer is bloody expensive. I need to seek out alternative treatments either privately in the UK or abroad, which are currently out of my reach financially because the NHS is running out of options.
Donations will be used to find second opinions, scans, alternative treatments, travel and other associated costs. I hope to find my miracle and as long as treatment is viable, donations will be focused on that - if anything changes, donations will go to creating memories for my little girl.
I want people to know exactly how their donations will be used because it's important that people know whatever they give will be put to very good use and will have a profound impact on my life.
My story
I started noticing lumps on my neck in in April 2013 and visited my GP with my concerns. I was sent away several times, told it probably wasn't anything serious but it still didn't feel right.
I kept at it and was eventually referred for tests. My worst fears were confirmed in January 2014 when I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma and a tumour that spanned almost the whole of my chest.
During that time, my relationship of 12 years had ended and I found myself a single mother of 29 with a terrifying diagnosis. It felt like things couldn't get any worse but I tried to stay positive and to get through it all, if not for myself, for Darcy.
I was referred to Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford to begin chemotherapy. The treatment at Broomfield was unsuccessful and they referred me to St Barts, a specialist oncology hospital in London. They then discovered that I also had developed Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma Diffuse Large B Cell which they call Grey Zone.
I have since had numerous chemotherapy treatments at St Barts. I spent 3 months in hospital partly in isolation and couldn't see Darcy during that time. I was in remission in Spring 2015 only for the cancer to come back.
St Barts have recently told me that they can no longer find treatment for me and are unable to offer me any further help.
I still feel like me and I still have some fight left, so hearing things like 'palliative care' and 'a few months' doesn't feel right and I owe it to myself and to Darcy to see what else might be available.
That's why I need your help. I appreciate any and all donations because they will either give me more or better time with my gorgeous little girl and that's worth fighting for!
I'll keep you posted!
Lots of love,
Jess
