Jessika is 23 years old. Bright, kind, funny, and full of big dreams. She loves to travel, wants a fulfilling career, and, like any young woman, hopes to experience all the wonder this world has to offer.

But Jessika has never known life without a fight.

Diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis just weeks after birth, Jessika has lived her entire life facing challenges most of us will never encounter. Her “normal” includes countless medications, hospital stays, and the ever-present reality that her lifespan might be shorter than ours.

In 2017, doctors discovered tumours — the kind that come with heavy words and heavier consequences. Still, Jessika faced it all with the courage of a warrior. She has never stopped dreaming, hoping, and showing the world what resilience looks like.

A Life Hanging in the Balance

Just a few weeks ago, Jessika’s health suddenly and severely deteriorated. She experienced a perfect storm of complications — lung function collapse, carbon dioxide poisoning, rhinovirus infection, and acute panic attacks — leading to a critical situation. Her oxygen levels plummeted. Her CO₂ levels spiked. Her breath rate reached a terrifying 75 breaths per minute (for context, most of us breathe around 12 times per minute).

Jessika’s life was in the balance. Her parents and extended family rushed to her side. Day and night, they’ve stayed with her as she’s fought to reclaim every breath.

The Fight Isn’t Over — But the Tide Is Turning

Today, Jessika is fighting back. Inch by inch, she’s clawing her way out of crisis. But recovery will be long, uncertain, and costly — physically, emotionally, and financially.

Her parents have already made enormous sacrifices to be with her, putting their lives and work on hold. A long-awaited family celebration in Fiji was missed, along with countless moments that make up the joy of being 23. Jessika’s future remains fragile, and the road ahead demands a village.
