Jessika's UNT Study Abroad Trip in Japan
Donation protected
***As of March 30th, my goal was changed to $2000 since it is the remaining cost I must pay of towards my program ****
Hello everyone!
My name is Jessika Hughes, and I am a senior studying at the University of North Texas (UNT) in Denton. Some of you may know that UNT offers a variety of educational study abroad programs for students to participate in, and my hope is to earn college credit towards my degree by studying in Japan through a UNT study abroad program! However, these study abroad programs become very expensive for the everyday student, and I realized that I would need help to reach my financial goals.
Applying for scholarships and working as a student employee at UNT are some of the ways I plan to help fund my educational trip. Additionally, this gofundme fundraiser will allow me to fund this study abroad program opportunity! I hope to raise up to ~$2,500 to use towards this study abroad trip, and I will use any leftover funds towards my graduate school expenses. Please consider donating since any amount would be appreciated! I look forward to sharing pictures and videos of my future trip to Japan!
MORE ABOUT MY EDUCATIONAL JOURNEY:
Some of you may already know my story, but here's a little more about my educational journey! I graduated from McKinney Boyd High School in 2020 with an unweighted GPA of 4.3. I then attended Collin College at both the McKinney and Plano campuses from 2020 to 2023 where I received an Associate of Applied Science in the Interpreter Education Program (A program that trains students to become Sign Language Interpreters) with Summa Cum Laude honors, a certificate of ASL studies, and an Associate of the Arts in General Studies with Magna Cum Laude honors.
I am now at UNT majoring in Applied Arts and Sciences where I am approaching graduating from my undergraduate program with a bachelor's degree. My GPA is currently a 3.9 out of 4.0, and I received all A's in this past Fall 2023 semester at UNT! After graduating from my UNT undergraduate, I hope to pursue a Master's in Linguistics. My end goal is to become an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher for international college students after graduating from UNT as well as an ASL interpreter after completing the BEI (The Board for Evaluation of Interpreters) certification process! I am hoping that these dual career paths will give me an opportunity to travel, meet people from various countries and backgrounds, and pursue the path that Jesus has designed for me!
