Dear friends and family,
Will you join us as we surround my brother Danny, sister-in-law Jessie, and their 6 kids (ages 16, 14, 12, 10, 8, 22 months) with love, support and care during this very difficult time?
Jessie was recently diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, which has spread to her lymph nodes. This comes as a shock to us but not to the Lord, who knows all of our days and walks with us and sustains us through the hardest of seasons.
They are pursuing an integrated treatment center in Atlanta that offers a wide variety of treatments (including low dose chemotherapy), due to the fact that Jessie has had Guillain-Barré twice and traditional chemo is not an option for her. This would mean their family would need to travel to Atlanta and find temporary housing for 4 weeks (treatments are every day for 2-6 hrs), then home for 4 weeks, then back in Atlanta for 4 weeks.
In addition to the cancer diagnosis, they are also dealing with a stressful living situation. They just made the major transition of relocating- from Iowa to Tennessee - and had embarked on a huge house remodel, when they got the news of cancer. They currently don’t have a functioning kitchen and are cooking for 8 people on an electric skillet on the dining table. Their house is filled with incomplete projects, unfinished sheet rock, all of which fall on Danny as he is doing all the work himself. And the doctors are concerned about starting treatment while there is dust and junk that could increase risk of infection for treatment and surgery. So now they are on a timeline. If we can raise enough money, we’d also like to help them hire out work to get some of the current projects finished quickly. This would take a huge burden off of them. They don’t need this stress on top of everything else. We want to alleviate as much of that as possible, which will allow them to focus on each other and have a home that is a place of rest and renewal for the difficult journey ahead.
I know we all want to do whatever we can to help them in their time of need. ❤️ If you can give a financial gift, we would be so grateful!! We thank you in advance! We know God is going to do great things. He is always working things for our good! And as Jessie keeps saying over and over again, “To God be all glory in good times and hard.”
More than anything, we covet your prayers for healing and for the family. ❤️
Jessie’s favorite verse:
“Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us. Selah”
Psalm 62:8
With faith in Him,
Jenny Mena
P.S. Cards of encouragement would be a huge blessing, especially to the kids who don’t see the messages online. If you’d like to send them something, direct message me and I’ll give you their address.
UPDATE:
The Lord has graciously provided a wonderful family to host us during our time at treatment. We are SO incredibly grateful for their new friendship and generosity of their home. We all plan to be together in Cummings, GA starting next week 12/18. We plan to be home for a week for Christmas, if I(Jessie) am feeling good enough to travel back and forth. I have had more nausea and been more tired this 2nd week.
We have received funding through Venmo, and direct donations for those who did not want to use the GoFundMe link. We are so thankful for all that have participated in praying and financially helping us get through this difficult time. As we’ve been away from home, we have seen that funds helped in so many ways travel, gas, my special diet, extra groceries, medical costs, and even have been able to wrap up some projects at home so we can go home and relax. We ARE SO THANKFUL!!
God has showed us so tangibly that HE will carry us through this!
We are so thankful for the great report from our doctors today and that my blood work looked really good. I was not compromised in anyway. That it’s looking promising that I can make a full recovery at this point. Continuing to pray, that’s what we see over the next months. I’m also very encouraged to actually feel that my tumor has already started to shrink. We are so thankful for this treatment center and the intense care I’m receiving there.
Blessed be the name of the Lord!!
with Love,
