Jessica's Stem Cell Treatment to Regain Vision

Donation protected

My name is Joseph Rodriguez. I am starting this GoFundME on behalf of my sister Jessica Rodriguez. Five years ago my sister began losing her eyesight. For a few months, doctors could not determine the reason behind the vision loss. After extensive testing she was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor. The tumor was pushing up against her optic nerve which was causing her vision to worsen. We finally had some answers but still lacked a plan for recovery. Doctors recommended she undergo Endoscopic/Endonasal Pituitary Surgery. This surgery would be minimally invasive and was thought to be the best option for her. Little did we know, the surgery would almost cost her life. Within 10 minutes of her going under, doctors cut into an artery in her brain and spent hours attempting to stop the bleeding. After 4 hours and 4 units of blood, doctors had the bleeding under control. Although the procedure was unsuccessful, my sister still had her life and was on the road to recovery. A few months passed and doctors had a new plan to remove to the tumor. Jessica would now have to undergo Transcranial surgery. After this procedure, Jessica spent many days ICU where she contracted Chemical meningitis. It seemed as if we were unable to catch a break. Week after week, she fought to get to better. Not only for herself, but for her kids, family, and friends. A month long road to recovery, doctors were finally able to clear her to go home.  Still with no vision and no idea if she would see again, Jessica was just relieved to be home with her loved ones. It's been a long 5 years and throughout this time she has learned to live in the dark. She learned to read braille, walk with a white cane, cook, and live her everyday life as if she could still see. If you ask her the only thing she wishes for is to see her kids again. They were forced to grow up at a young age, but you wouldn't believe how proud they make all of us. Until recently, we all thought this was how Jessica would live the rest of her life. One evening a family member came across a story on the local news about a stem cell treatment which could help Jessica regain her vision. Jessica reached out to the patient that had success with the treatment and at that moment knew she needed to contact the the clinic. Doctors at the clinic looked into her records to see if she would be a good candidate for the procedure. The stem cell treatment is not a guarantee to regain her vision, but is certainly something she wants to try. A few weeks ago she was given the clear, and was accepted for the treatment. The cost for this treatment will be $25,000 plus cost of travel. Jessica can not fly due to having a brain aneurysm so we would have to make the day and half trip by car to Coral Spring, FL. We will be doing multiple fundraisers to help cover expenses. I will be posting future fund raisers on Facebook. We understand we are all living in tough times. A few dollars goes a long way and we will be truly grateful for anything you have to offer. This is the shortened version of her story and will be more than happy to get into further details. Please feel free to reach out to us if you would like to donate anything outside this GoFundMe. Thanks again and we truly appreciate your time and help.
