Jessica's Pride Ride: Hardware for Trans Athletes

Donation protected

Jessica Beck is a Cyclo-cross athlete, a musician, an artist, an amazing niece (to Hardware's own Coach Dana), and a person looking to affirm her identity via the miracles and obstacles of modern medicine. The resistance along her paths is not just mud and elevation, but also society and economics, and we vow not to let these latter things stand in her path. So on August 28, people in Chicago and around the country will be riding to support Jessica and young people everywhere who are fighting to be themselves--in our sports, in our communities and in their own bodies.

To register your team, click the green 'Contact' button by Dana Fuller's name. Tell Dana your name+ your team's name + anything else you want us to know about your challenge/goals for the Pride Ride.

Teams of 1-3 will sign up for a small fee and spend the next month gathering sponsors. On Saturday 8/28 teams will be given one hour to bike (or row or ski) as many meters as they can. Donors can give a single amount AT ANY TIME for the event or pledge an amount to give per kilometer that their team rides, whichever works for them. (If you row, best to collect donations per 500m.) All donations should be made here for greatest transparency/efficiency. Funds raised will go to support both Jessica's medical expenses (>90%) as well as local organizations like @safetranstravel that deliver services to trans people who need help navigating their unnecessarily difficult paths to health & happiness. (When you donate, please indicate which team you are supporting or if your donation is general and not tied to a team.)

The aforementioned uncle, Dana Fuller, will be the point person for this event. Please feel free to contact him with any questions; his contact info is available on the Hardware website and in other materials relating to this. Event details will differ depending on where/when you will be able to ride your hour. But whether you plan to ride at Hardware in Chicago or on that old Airdyne in your basement in Rhode Island, you are going to be part of an important step both in a great young woman's life and in our collective effort to take the next steps toward an inclusive and affirming society. Thank you!
