Jessica's Classroom Fund
Hello! My name is Amanda Moser and I am fundraising for my sister Jessica who recently began her teaching career in Pueblo, Colorado as a part of Teach For America (TFA). TFA is a nonprofit organization that supports low-income school districts by placing college graduates in title one schools across the country to teach for two years. Jessica recently graduated from Wake Forest University with a degree in Biochemistry and is teaching middle school science to 6th and 8th students. These schools and students are in underprivileged communities where common resources to many are not available to them. Jessica is teaching in an auxiliary trailer classroom and her classroom came with desks and a whiteboard- not even chairs. Historically, only about 40% of middle school students matriculate to high school. The rest of the students will drop out and enter the workforce, working largely minimum wage jobs. Her students are facing food insecurity and home and health challenges amongst others at very young ages. Jessica is extremely dedicated and is working hard to provide the best learning environment for these students and, more generally, a safe space. She has purchased feminine hygiene products for her students as well as protein meal bars to combat their lack of dinner or breakfast on many days. All classroom materials such as books, pencils, pens, paper come out of Jessica's own pocket. She is even responsible for buying learning materials for her science experiments such as plants to learn about photosynthesis. Academic supplies that are free at most other schools are not for these students who are already facing financial hardships. As you can imagine, this can get quite expensive- especially on a meager first-year teacher's salary. I am setting up this GoFund Me to raise money to better Jessica's classroom and her students' learning experiences. Anything you might be able to give would be much appreciated:)
