Jessica's Traumatic Brain Injury
Donation protected
As some of you may know, in 2015 our Daughter Jessica, suffered 3 separate concussions. No, she's wasn't drafted as the newest Linebacker for the Carolina Panthers! It started out what we thought was a simple bump on the head. She bent over to pick up a puppy. Our adult dog was running around at the same time and his head collided with her temple, causing her first concussion. We've learned that once you get one concussion, you are more prone to getting another. Jessica got two more concussions because her brain was having trouble processing the information that her eyes, ears and skin were sending, and resulted in a Traumatic Brain Injury (aka TBI).
We've been to many doctors and therapists in the Charlotte area, but haven't found any relief for her. On good days, she is able to be around no more that two people at a time, looking people in the eye, tracking their hand motions, evaluating the emotion behind the words, listening and responding to conversation really drains her mental stamina. She is usually in bed for many days in what we call "a cone of silence," recovering from the stimuli of being around a lot of people or loud noises. The information processor in her brain has been damaged, so it is difficult for her to handle any sort of stimuli. Sensory-overload is something she has to work through everyday. Footsteps in the house and sweeping of the floors for example, are extremely loud and overwhelming for her. This once vibrant young woman has been reduced to a shell of her former self. We have lost our sweet, energetic, loving daughter to this TBI. She is unable to function or do the smallest of tasks without debilitating consequences. She tries and tries but, due to what we now know are eye/brain convergences issues, she always ends up the same way: in bed, overwhelmed, and with constant headaches. Because of her current condition, she has lost her job. Since she was only employed for 4 months prior to her TBI, she is unable to get any government disability coverage. Jessica is now living with us so we can care and watch over her.
First and foremost, we are asking for you to pray with us for the Lord to heal Jessica's brain. We know He has great plans for her life and wants to use her and this injury for His good. We thank all of you who have been faithfully lifting her up in prayer this year. We know the Lord is in control of what is happening to our daughter. We are grateful and humbled by your outpouring of love for Jessica that many have shown throughout the year.
God has recently directed us to two groups of doctors in Atlanta, GA . Cerebrum Health Centers and Thrive Neuro Health Center are having AMAZING success with patients with TBI's. We've learned of their good works first hand, from a friend who has suffered with his own battle with a TBI for the past 10 years. He has made outstanding strides this last year in returning to the quality of life he had prior to his injury. We are soooo happy for him and his family!
The doctors at these centers use cutting edge technology to pinpoint, treat and heal brain injuries. They have countless success stories of miraculous results. This technology and care does come at a price. A year's worth of treatment can exceed $100,000. Since health insurance doesn't cover this type of treatment, we are asking for you to pray about how you can help Jessica in her recovery process that she so desperately needs. Please understand, it is VERY hard for us to present this to you. But this is definitely a need our family has right now. We are asking you to partner with us to help our daughter. If you are able to help in any way financially we would be so grateful.
We know there is strength in numbers, Thank You in advance for praying for Jessica and our family. We greatly appreciate you!
May the Lord richly bless you!
