Jessica’s Journey
Hello, my name is Jessica Herring. I have never been one to dwell on my own pain. I have always in the past been able to work through my own pain. I definitely have a very hard time sharing and admitting any weaknesses or the need of help.
During the steps of my journey, I have had many fun and sad times. I have always known that I can learn to do anything I set my mind to. From a young age, I have been responsible for providing myself as well. I did my best to instill these qualities in my children. My youngest son died three and a half years ago in a tragic automobile accident. My other three children are independent, responsible, educated and productive citizens of society. The and my grandchildren are why I will survive and make it through this dark and challenging time. I also voluntarily fostered several children and worked to educate mentally handicappeed families.
I am self-employed. I am a general contractor and my include but not limited to preparing meals, laundry, personal shopping, home repairs, landscaping, house cleaning, delivering food to shut-ins, and the local food banks. I have several full time clients as well that I do whatever is asked of me. They will continue to employ me when I am well again.
I’m going to provide a little medical history. In May 2019, I began experiencing horrific debilitation headaches and stomach sickness. I continued to push forward and work. September my face started to swell, my eyes shut and vision, when I could see, had become so bad I could not read or make phone calls for help. I was having sharp pains shooting through my whole head and could never get rest so I could work. Taste and smell is gone as well. September and October required two separate trips to the local emergency room where I was told that I had an urinary tract infection. Several different antibiotics were prescribed but did no good and the symptoms worsened. December required another emergency room visit and Doctor Cook ordered an MRI and found a mass the size of a small orange between the eye muscles. An Ears, Nose, and Throat Specialist referred and then transferred me to an oncologist at UMAS in Little Rock, Arkansas. In January 2020, through a biopsy and PET scan, I was diagnosed with non-hodgkins lymphoma-central nervous system lymphoma. February through May I began a treatment called Matrix Chemotherapy which requires cycles of 1 week at UMAS and two weeks home. During the weeks home, I have to have blood tests done three days a week in order to make sure I get no infections. I began to get really sick and had to have a blood transfusion in April which delayed chemo treatments. In June they will do a seven to ten day stem cell removal. These cells will be grown and returned to my body as a bone marrow transplant in July.
Thank you for sharing your time and consideration and sharing in my journey. The oncologist team assures me that within a year I will be fully recovered and can return to work. It would help me mentally and physically to be able to feel productive and to help contribute to the running of our household and help ease my daughter’s stress. I need help financially with rent, utilities, food cost, medications, fuel and motel expenses.
Always remember, never give up and give into what you are scared of. Press on! What is done in love is done well. Thank you for paying it forward. It will always be remembered and appreciated.
