Hello everyone! My name is Jessica, and I am a creative entrepreneur who has dedicated my life’s work to a company rooted in taking better care of our bodies. My dedication to self care is perhaps rooted in my own journey to claim it.
I was born with a congenital deformity that caused my ribs and breastbone to grow inward and a related birth defect that caused the partial absence of my right pectoral muscles and breast tissue, creating dramatic asymmetry.
When I was a senior in high school, my family's insurance covered an augmentation in an attempt to improve the contour of my chest and the breast deformity. Considering how much insecurity my disfigurement caused during my pre-teen and teen years, I my parents and I were hopeful that this surgery would help me feel more confident in my own skin.
Instead, the surgery caused years of uncomfortable stiffness and prolonged dull pain in my breasts, and the multiple subsequent procedures I had over the last several years left me in a position where I'm worse off than if I'd never had the first procedure.
Last fall, the pressure I typically felt in my chest started to worsen and I began experiencing sudden sharp pains in my chest along with a shortness of breath.
When I went to the doctor for an ultrasound, they found an irregular mass in my breast that can't be identified but is thought to be a foreign body (possibly something left behind during my last surgery).

There is also concern that bacteria was introduced to the breast cavity during surgery which has caused a chronic, low-grade infection.
The best option for me at this point is a highly specialized corrective surgery, removing all foreign objects and capsules from my body and repairing my pectoral muscles.
The total cost of surgery is $53k. Unfortunately, I found out last week that my PPO Insurance plan will only cover $1,800 of the total cost. This came as a surprise to me considering all of the procedures are medically necessary and I'm on the best plan available from CoveredCA.
I find myself in a situation that is urgent and time sensitive. I've paid my full balance on credit cards - maxing out my credit, making me highly vulnerable should any other bumps arise down the road.
Any and all contributions will make such a big difference in my ability to navigate the road ahead. I would like to ask my friends and family to please donate as you are able and spread the word to support me in covering this unexpected, essential cost.
Thank you so much for reading this and for, hopefully, sharing with your community.
All my best,
Jessica
