Hello, my name is Destiny Baca, Jessica’s eldest daughter. Before I say anything, I want to thank you for taking the time to read/donate/share my mother’s story.

Jessica Marie Garcia was a grandmother, mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She had two daughters, myself & my little sister, Jasmine, along with a grandson, Evan.
Jessica was someone who you could go to for anything, she never turned anyone away who needed her help. She was that mom that people knew as the “cool mom”, because she always wanted everyone to have fun. Jessica had such a big heart for others.
When I was a young girl, my mom was injured at work which disabled her from working her caregiver job. She had been put on prescription medication afterwards. So most of my life, she had been using medication.
Until about 5 years ago, she decided that she needed to ease her pain more than her medication was able to. My mother started to abuse her medication and turned to different drugs.
This quickly escalated to an addiction and my mother was soon battling a disease that had consumed every aspect of her life.
On August 24, 2021 at 1pm, my mother was pronounced deceased. She relapsed after being sober for 4 months and overdosed on Fentanyl.
No matter how I feel, I know that my mother is now at peace and no longer suffering in pain.
Now, I must figure out how to cover all the costs of everything I need to do. My mother didn’t have any life insurance, absolutely nothing else set aside. I am definitely not in the position to handle all this by myself, neither is my grandmother. We really don’t want to be in this position to be asking for help, but the truth is, we truly do need it.
