Hi everyone. This is a close dear friend and family to our family.
Jessica’s story started with stomach pain around the age of 12. Many trips to the ER and They were always told there was nothing wrong. Soon her liver counts were high and they thought she had liver disease. They found a specialist for her liver and began to see him around the age of 16, test after test came back negative and he referred us to his partner. Finally, she got a diagnosis of Chronic pediatric Pancreatitis. The Chase’s have exhausted all of their options for her treatment. So on August 20th she will be having major surgery to remove her pancreas. This, by the way is after countless other surgery and recoveries she’s gone through over the last several years Because there is not a surgeon that does this Surgery in Utah, they have to go to Columbus Ohio for up to 8 weeks. This surgery is called TPIAT (Total Pancreactectomy with Islet Autotransplantaion). Her pancreas is the main blood supply of the spleen it will have to be removed along with her gallbladder, appendix and part of her small intestine. This surgery takes 15 hours from start to finish. She will be in the hospital up to 5 weeks with at least a week in ICU and will have to stay in Ohio for several weeks after. This is not all covered by insurance and the cost is quite large She will require pancreas enzymes with every meal and snack for the rest of her life and will be a Type 3 diabetic. But to have the pain she has almost daily, she says it will be worth it. She is looking forward to having quality of life back and hoping to be able to start college in 2025. Please pray and send good vibes for her as they prepare for this major journey in her life. She is a strong girl and beautiful girl inside and out and has so much love for life. Any help is much appreciated.
