Jessica’s 5K Walk for Children with Type 1 Diabetes

This afternoon, my amazing 12-year-old daughter Jessica completed a 5K sponsored walk in support of MWL NHS Charities — raising funds to help the incredible Ormskirk Paediatric Diabetes Team continue delivering the very best care to children and young people living with Type 1 Diabetes.

This cause is incredibly close to our hearts. In September 2021, our world changed overnight when Jessica was admitted to hospital, very unwell, and diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. It’s not easy — managing diabetes is a 24/7 job, doing the work of an organ that no longer functions.

There are tough days. She faces challenges most kids her age don’t. But she does it all with courage, strength, and a heart full of determination

She walked not just for herself, but for all the children who rely on the care and support of our team — a team that goes above and beyond every single day to help families navigate life with Type 1.
