Jesse's Ankle Surgery Bills
Donation protected
I'm Jesse LaRue and recently moved from Houston, Texas to Everett, Washington after accepting a full-time preaching position with the Silver Lake Church of Christ. In December of 2015, while hiking in Colorado, I slipped on a patch of ice while carrying my (at the time) 21 month old daughter, Abigail. Because I was carrying her, the resulting slip and fall was awkward as I was more concerned about protecting her than myself, and I ended up breaking my ankle. After going to an urgent care facility, then a consult with an orthopoedic surgeon, I was told I needed surgery. After consulting with the doctor, family, and friends, I decided to go ahead and have the surgery while in Colorado, even though I was out of network with my insurance. The doctors and facilities all said not to worry about it, that they dealt with it all the time, that the claim would get denied, they would appeal it for me, then it would get paid. Well, long story short, after 11 months of either complete radio silence, or fighting with my insurance company, it has become clear my insurance has denied all claims and will not be paying one penny of my bills. So, between the surgeon, anesthesiologist, and facility fees, I am on the hook for about $5000. In addition to that, at the time I was self-employed as a roofing sales & project manager, which means (as I couldn't walk for 2 months) I couldn't work. We have been saddled with credit card debt accrued just to pay our bills during this time when I could not work. And on top of all that is some of the expenses we have incurred moving from Houston to Seattle, skyrocketing insurance premiums (for what, I don't know?), and finding out that my wife, Amber, is pregnant with our 2nd child and due in May.
I hate asking for help, because it seems like all I ever do is ask for help, but we just can't catch a break. I just want to be able to provide for my family, start our new life here in Seattle on a firm financial ground, and be able to finally start saving for the future. I am seeking at a minimum the $5000 for the medical bills, but anything over that to help with the debt, and to start covering maternity expenses for the next baby would be amazing. We cannot even begin to express how grateful we would be, and how grateful we have been to all the many people who have already helped us just to make it through the last year. God's love has been shown so vividly to us through the many people he has put in our lives, and we are grateful to Him for the blessings he constantly showers upon us.
What I would love more than anything is to finally be in a position to where I am on the other side of this equation, able to be the one giving instead of receiving, helping instead of being helped. All I can offer in return for now, though, is prayers of thanksgiving, and blessing upon all who join in helping us. We will be forever grateful. Thank you, and may the Lord bless you!
