Jesse “JJ” Cole (JJstrong)

Hi friends & family,

On October 16th 2022, Our JJ gained his angel wings and went to heaven to have eternal rest. JJ passed away peacefully with his family surrounding his bedside in kapiolani hospital. Here’s a shorter version on what happened before JJ’s passing. October 7th jj woke up with what we thought was a “cold” later that day his breathing became very labored, we brought him to Wilcox and they admitted him . We waiting for kapiolani to have a open bed in the PICU , soon as one opened , they medivac jj and his dad to kapiolani, they ran lots of tests and found out he had “Human Metapneumovirus” . His breathing was really bad , they had him on 15liters oxygen, then placed him on the cpap machine for a day, when that wasn’t working, we had to make a hard choice an let them intubate him on October 11th. From that point on his body kept declining, his X-rays kept getting worse and they put him on the oscillator. Even that wasn’t helping him improve . October 15th the doctors urged us to have family an friends fly out to say good bye because jjs lungs was filled with blood and most likely he wouldn’t survive the night. October 16th at 12:04am jj flatlined right before mine and his dads eyes. The doctor knew we wanted him to be helped til the end. So he shouted orders to push a pretty heavy dose of epi. Thankfully his heart started beating again but his oxygen was very low. They tried everything to keep jj alive until our relatives made it in that same morning at 8am. Our boy held on til they got there , but once the first set of family came in, me and Jesse got pulled outside and the doctor told us “I’m so sorry I know your family just got here, but Jesse is declining fairly fast and has minutes at this point and blood will start to come out of his mouth and nose and through the ventilator hose, so we strongly suggest you get EVERY SINGLE PERSON THAT CAME AND SURROUND JESSES BED AND PRAY OVER HIM BEFORE HIS FINAL MOMENT HAPPENS. Me and Jesse was so Heart broken and Jesse told the doctor , “Doc, just please make sure he is heavily sedated and feels absolutely NOTHING” the doctor insured is he is very heavily sedated and isn’t feeling nothing at all, it’s all just a dream to jj and he will leave this earth very peacefully . “ we got everyone in the room surrounded JJ’s bed , my sister in law prayed while the doctors and nurses joined in. After that they shut off the monitor, the ventilator an pulled out the tube from his throat. All I remember was seeing jesse go over jj and seconds later jj was gone I remember asking the doctor , is he gone? And he checked and said no words an just nodded “. My whole body started aching , my heart was beating so hard I couldn’t believe he was gone . But I am so grateful he felt NOTHING and had family surrounding him when he made his transition. I will miss my baby so much: and I can’t thank everyone enough for the prayers , love and support through it all. He fought hard and I will forever be grateful for the time I did have with him. We are in the process of making funeral arrangements . Once they are finalized I will let everyone know. We are just raising funds to be put towards his funeral services.
