After the unexpected loss of my beloved Jessalyn, I have been struggling in untold ways. Many of you, by way of support, have expressed interest in how you could contribute to her legacy and memory.
After great thought to what she would want that wouldn’t seem a hollow gesture, I believe she would want support for a vision we shared which was a major factor in our purchase of The Floating Bar.
Some of you may have heard of our intent to create “Sinking Man” (she spoke of it often), a maritime-focused reimagining of the famous “Burning Man” with the ultimate aim of creating tangible benefits to marine environments while drawing attention to, and support for, causes developing material technologies to solve marine pollution, conservation, and related issues.
I know I can’t do justice to that enormous vision in this format, but beginning this effort, (even simply) cannot wait any longer. While we will never have the next decades of time with Jessalyn I thought we would, I am forever changed and motivated to enable the type of unconditional love she embodied.
This memorial fundraiser is for what I would like to consider the inaugural “Sinking Man” event. To be performed on Jessalyn’s birthday (Nov 6th). We will spend the week leading up to the event celebrating not only her life and the people/things she loved, but also drawing attention to the myriad of causes she supported and believed in that keep and make our oceans, waterways, and marine environment, places that will endure.
While we all know Acrobatics and Movement Arts were her greatest passion, we believed our greatest mark could be left in conservation and sustainability. She always held the talent of empowering belief in people, inspiring them toward their best selves. I can think of no better tribute than a life giving monument illustrating her perpetual love.
What this short term call to action means to achieve is a weeklong ‘Celebration of Jessalyn's life, culminating in the sinking of a new artificial reef around The Floating Bar on Nov 6th in the shape of a heart.’
Jessalyn's heart was truly larger than life. A large heart which will build, grow, and sustain untold life long after we all join her seems a fitting memorial. I believe she deserves a memory that supports and sustain new life for millennia.
We ask for any possible support. Financial donations are of course appreciated, but I can’t enact the future vision alone. I’ll be working with Reef Restoration organizations in Bocas del Toro, but there are many logistics which I cannot even conceive of at this point. I would gladly accept any advice/assistance from fellow burners, local burn planners, and of course her beloved Swing City.
While this initial goal will cover a significant artificial reef installation, we plan to use any overage to create the CirqueFairy Foundation supporting both Movement Arts and Marine Conservation.
Unconditional Love,
A
