Jess's Journey - A Road to Recovery

Her Story:

Jessica Hooten (Jess) is a mother to a beautiful 4-month-old baby girl, Emilia Sue, and a fun-loving 4-year-old son, Eric Thomas (both pictured below). She works at Margaret Mary Hospital in the Emergency Department full-time. She also is enrolled in college courses through Chamberlain University in hopes of becoming a nurse.

As many people know, Jess wears multiple hats with honor. She is a single mother. She is a hospital caregiver. She is a daughter. A niece. A cousin. A best friend. However, the most important hat she needs to wear right now is...a fighter.

On May 20, 2019 at around 10 am. on her way to work at Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville, Jess's life was forever changed. A truck  (pictured below) crossed into her lane of travel on State Road 46 and a head on collision was the result (her car is pictured above). By the grace of God, the kiddos were not with her at the time of the accident. However, due to her injuries, Jess was lifelined via helicopter to the University of Cincinnati Health Campus.

Upon arriving at the hospital, Jess's extensive injuries began to be noted. She had a severely deep gash spanning across her forehead, which needed to be fixed with plastic surgery. The surgeon placed 16 stitches into her forehead to close the wound.

The next concern was her right leg and ankle. Due to attempting to slam on her brakes before impact, Jess's femur ended up breaking in two different areas. Her tibia and fibula bones had a compound fracture, and her ankle was crushed. She underwent a four hour long surgery to correct the broken femur, tibia, and fibula bones. The surgery ended with an external fixation being placed around her leg. This is essentially a series of screws, rods, and plates placed into her bone and protruding out of her leg to ensure proper healing occurs. In a week, she will need to undergo another surgery to attempt to fix her ankle. There will most likely be more surgeries before she will be completely healed.

Jess has an extremely long road of recovery ahead of her to even be able to walk, let alone be able to work, care for her kiddos, and be the independent person that everybody knows she is. There is no estimate on when she will be released from the hospital and she will most likely have to do rehab therapy before even having a possibility of coming home.

Why GoFundMe:

As many of you probably already know, she is stubborn and when I say stubborn I mean the most stubborn person I have ever met. She will never ask for help. She will continue to fight battles on her own despite having many, many people who love and care about her that would undoubtedly help her.

That being said, Jess is worried about trivial parts of life that shouldn't be of concern when her health is most important. She should be focusing on recovering from her injuries and getting back to herself again. She shouldn't have to be worried about the financial hardship that occurs after an accident that will keep her out of work for months.

So here we are...I am asking everyone to contribute whatever they can (even a prayer is more than appreciated) to lessen her worries about losing her house, not being able to care for her babies, not being able to work, etc. and allow her to be worried about herself for once in her life.
