A few months ago, my wife Jess was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma, a rare cancer that affects the liver. She has an aggressive treatment plan that aims to shrink the tumour enough so it can be removed by surgery. It’s currently the size of an orange, and Jess is receiving chemotherapy and immunotherapy.
This is an aggressive cancer, but we are tackling this with a positive mindset.
For anyone who doesn’t know Jess, she is the most kind-hearted, selfless person you’ll ever meet. Her life’s goal is to give to others and make this world a brighter place. She’s a social worker who has dedicated her life to supporting kids and families in the foster care system. Even with a cancer diagnosis, she still insists on going to work and providing support to the families and schools she works with.
Jess is experiencing her own version of hell but continues to talk about how much worse this entire situation could be if we were in a place like Gaza. Where without medical treatment, Jess wouldn’t see our daughter Macey's 3rd birthday.
With this in mind, I have decided to raise some funds to shave my head. All proceeds raised will go to Save the Children with their Gaza campaign, which supports children and families with urgent food, clean water, medical supplies, and hygiene products.
Once my locks are cut off, I will also donate my hair to wigs for kids, an organisation that makes wigs from donated hair for children with cancer.
