Introduction
We first met Jes Stoltzfus Buller when she came to Goshen College to study and play volleyball. She brought talent and much positive energy, dedication and encouragement to the team and to us as coaches. Since graduation, Jes has dedicated her time and energy to peace work.
Jes has been working for peace with Mennonite Central Committee and local organizations in Colombia, South America for over seven years.
She is passionate and dedicated as she continues to work for peace from her current job in the United States. Recently, Jes married her favorite guy, Colombian Willian Murillo Gonzales. Congratulations to both Jes and Willian!
Jes continues to be an amazing person with a determined spirit and a big heart.
News
Over a year ago, Jes was hit by a truck while on her motor scooter in Colombia. It was a very serious and traumatic accident which resulted in a broken femur in two places, knee ligament injuries and serious wounds on her skin. She waited a long time on the road for rescue personnel and then had a long and painful time waiting to heal in hospitals. Multiple surgeries included a rod in her leg and skin grafts to help heal the wounds. Jes is grateful for friends and family members who spent time with her and helped her during this tough time.
While one fracture has healed nicely, the second break has taken more time and infection has been a major concern. After some set backs, another surgery, more waiting and additional treatments which have helped, it has not totally resolved the issues. There will be additional surgeries which will include a surgery to remove the rod in her femur and ACL/PCL repairs to her knee. This continues to be a long and hard journey but gradually she is recovering and getting stronger. She is walking now! She has needed a lot of physical therapy after the surgeries and will continue to need physical therapy. While insurance has helped, there are many expenses not covered by insurance including physical therapy.
Jes is a humble and independent woman and it is a challenge to ask for help. We wanted to help her with expenses and felt that this would be a way for a lot of people to help. She was hesitant to agree to this, but we really felt it strongly in our hearts that this was much needed. If many people contribute a little bit, it can go a long way to relieve stress associated with the bills.
Please help us raise this money to help Jes with remaining costs of past and future surgeries, and with on going physcial therapy as she continues to recover and get stronger. Every little bit will help. Thank you for considering a small monetary gift.
Peace,
