A lot of people have been asking what they can do to help my brother, Jerry Whatley and his family during this horrible, devastating time. They have so many expenses right now that I wanted to give everyone a place to go to help if they choose.
Two weeks ago, Jerry was having complications after his 8th back surgery. He had been having so much unexplained pain that his doctor was sure this back surgery would help. However, his pain got worse after his surgery and became unbearable and he began losing his ability to walk and function. He was rushed to the ER with what we thought was an infection. After that was ruled out, they did a full body MRI and this showed he had a cancer of some kind. They performed a biopsy and he was then diagnosed with a rare CANCER called Metastatic High-grade Neuroendocrine Carcinoma. It is very aggressive and extremely painful. He is battling multiple brain tumors, with tumors up and down his spine, tumors in his lungs, and his bones as well.
Jerry has made the decision to not do chemo or radiation due to the aggressive cancer that he has. He has set up hospice care and they are working to control his pain and make him more comfortable.
If you have been lucky enough to know him, then you know what a strong, vibrant, 48 year old man Jerry is. It is heartbreaking to see such a wonderful man and his family go through this unexpected battle. Our hearts are forever broken.
