Jerry Massa's Covid Recovery

Hello everyone, if you know my dad, Jerry Massa, you’ve probably seen his updates regarding his health over the last year. What was supposed to be the start of an amazing coastal retirement in south-western Mexico, turned into a constant battle for his health. First with Dengue Fever, then kidney stones, requiring multiple unexpected trips back to the US for treatment, which has created an unexpected financial strain. And now unfortunately, despite being vaccinated, he has been infected with the coronavirus. Across the last 7 days or so his condition has deteriorated to the point of needing immediate hospitalization. The healthcare system in Mazatlan, Mexico is being ravaged by Covid and there are no hospitals available taking new patients, private or public. He is also unable to be transported to the states because he has covid. By nothing short of a miracle, today a bed at a private hospital opened for a small window of time and we were able to get him admitted and were able to begin treating his bacterial pneumonia that has left his lungs swollen and his oxygen levels low. They are also working to get him eating again, as it has been days since he has been able to move, let alone eat.

Unfortunately this level of care at a private hospital is quite expensive. While the generosity of my mother allowed him to fill the bed, we are unsure of what the true cost of this 5-7 day hospital stay may be. It is looking like it could be anywhere from $15,000- $30,000.
