Jerry Woodfill Johnson Space Center Tree Memorial

This fund-raiser is for a Johnson Space Center (JSC) Tree Memorial in honor of Jerry Woodfill and his 56 years of service with NASA.

Jerry's amazing career at NASA began on Flag Day, June 14, 1965. Jerry was the Apollo Spacecraft Warnings System Engineer. His system was responsible for the Apollo 13 “Main Bus B Under-volt” Master Alarm, which resulted in Astronaut Jim Lovell’s famous distress call, “Houston, We’ve Had a Problem.” That alarm was the first alert of that life-threatening explosion which led Jerry and others to be awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom. In Jerry’s later career, Jerry was a passionate and enthusiastic speaker for NASA to tens of thousands of people of all ages across the globe, including Great Britain and Brazil. Jerry presented his NASA life experiences in his talks, “Failure Is Not an Option: Steps Leading to Success", “13 Life Lessons from Apollo 13”, and “STEM/College IS The Right Stuff”, among many others. Jerry’s unique presentation style, including the many songs he wrote for his presentations, was truly engaging, making Jerry one of the most sought-after speakers in the JSC Speaker’s Bureau.

Jerry touched so many lives in a meaningful and loving way - whether they were his family or friends or a stranger with whom he could share his faith. The Johnson Space Center Memorial Tree Program allows friends and family to plant a tree on the JSC property in memory of a NASA employee. This fund-raiser will collect funds for the Tree Memorial in memory of Jerry. If funds are collected above and beyond the cost of the Tree Memorial, the remaining funds will be donated to Jerry Woodfill's home church, The Way Church in Spring, TX.
