On Sunday, February 18th 2024, Jerry Moore was trail riding with a group of friends in Black River Horse Camp, in Florida. As the group was returning to camp, his horse jerked around unexpectedly into a gopher hole off the trail. The horse went down and during the process of trying to free itself from the hole, he threw Jerry who landed flat on his back. The group quickly worked to help and called 911 who had to airlift Jerry by helicopter to the hospital in Sanford, FL.
After a through medical review, the doctors found a compression on Jerry's spinal cord, paralyzing him from the neck down. He underwent emergency surgery to relieve the pressure. While it is very early, the doctors believe the surgery was successful. Jerry is expected to have a long recovery time in the hospital before rehab.
Jerry's family has traveled to be with him in FL until he can be moved home. Due to the extended hospital stay and helicopter flight, friends are trying to help the family by raising money so Jerry and his family can be supported during this time. Prayers are also appreciated and Jerry has shared how grateful he is for the support from everyone.
