Jerry JT Terry "T-Bone's Cancer Fund"

What can I say about JT?

I have know him since I was 8, that's a total of 34 years. We became best buds when I was 17 when my mom passed away and he presented himself as a willing mentor as well as my track & field coach at the time.  We went on to play basketball on the same team and traveled the country together for over 15 years and were roomies on the road every season. Besides being a mainstay representative of wheelchair sports as a whole in the greater DFW Metroplex area since the 80's, JT is also a huge supporter of junior wheelchair sports.

He has helped numerous kids of all ages reach their potential as wheelchair athletes and reach their goals in life and academically as well. Over the years, lots of kids left the Dallas Jr. Texans, and later on the Jr. Mavs, and went on to earn degrees and play college wheelchair sports, as well as move on from the college level and continue to play as adults around the country and the world.

I can't say enough about the impact JT has had on my life, and on my family's life since I met him when I was 8 years old. So when I found out he was sick I was very worried. When I found out he has Stage 4 bladder cancer I was almost brought to tears for my friend. But I know better. No crying allowed. We don't cry and hide, we get out in the open and face whatever the obstacle is. That's what JT taught me.

He needs all the monetary support he can get from everybody. With all of the lives he has touched over the years, and all of the families and friends he is surrounded with on a daily basis, now is the time for all of us to give back. The situation is urgent, and he is in a lot of pain. The funds will be used mainly for the forthcoming storm of medical bills.

If he wasn't coaching, or mentoring, he was volunteering his time to a whole bunch of charitable organizations passed on through the years that ended up in his care. Organizations that still exist today because of his efforts. Now is the time to give back to him, he needs all of the monetary help he can get. His cancer is manageable currently, but without the care he needs it will become unmanageable very quickly. He will need help with medical bills, rides to and from treatment in the event family isn't available, and any other expenses that come with living day to day with cancer.

The road ahead is a long and tough one and a very hopeful one. I love my brother very much , so lets see what we can do as a community to rally around him and show him that we care. Please reach out with a donation to this page, and to him personally and tell him about the impact he has had on your life. All of the funds will go directly to JT, with the exception of the fee charged to post this. Thanks,

Vernon Walker
