Jerry & Becki Goniea

Hi my name is Dena and I am creating this gofundme on behalf of our dear brother and sister in law Jerry and Becki Goniea.

This is a new experience for us…asking for help

in this way, but sometimes a little help can help lift the weight and burden when it feels as though the trials are relentless.

The week before New Years my brother and sister in law had a scare when they had to take their oldest son to the ER. Thankfully he was ok and discharged home. What they were thankful was only a scare and over was only the beginning.

A few days later my sister in law called me and told me Jerry was having some mild stomach discomfort and she was taking him to the ER. It was found that Jerry had appendicitis which I assured them since it was caught should be a quick easy surgery as long as all went well. Unfortunately all was not well, when they went in to operate it was found Jerry’s appendix had ruptured. He woke up with an open abdominal incision with a wound vac and drain. We again were still so thankful it was caught despite not being what they expected, he would be okay and could start recovering.

I feel at this time as a mom and wife to say….that would have felt like a lot—-enough—-it is so hard to go through these things….but despite those trials my brother and sister in law still showed grace and were thankful.

I wish that was the end friends because it felt like enough but sadly it was not….

Yesterday while at work my brother in law called me at in a state of shock and fear I think. He had gone to wake my sister in law after he realize she didn’t get up with the kids like she normally does to get them off to school. He told me she was acting strange and then he said— she doesn’t know who she is…she doesn’t know her name. After being rushed to the hospital and after many tests it was found my sweet loving selfless sister in law had suffered a stroke.

I cannot tell you how Jerry, Becki and the kids must have and be processing this…I keep thinking of all the things….all the things they must be worried about.

Becki is showing much improvement from yesterday, and we are so very thankful for that. We don’t know yet all the ways in which this stroke will impact her and their daily life, she still has much evaluating by doctors and therapists to determine those things.

We cannot change the things that happen to us…as you all know. And we rarely have much we can do but navigate through the aftermath of it all. I feel as family and friends there are a few things we can do to help lift the burden to allow them to recover and heal. We have started a meal train for them to help provide meals. We would like to ask if there is nothing else you can do…if you would just pray for them. We would also like to help lift the financial burden for them of all of these hospitalizations, testing, treatments etc so they don’t have to worry about anything but getting better ❤️‍
