Those of you who know Travis, know he had a tight bond with his dad, Jerry A Mansell. Jerry helped raise Travis during his younger years and continued to be a good influence and role model for Travis as he grew up. Jerry was always there for Travis; the good, the bad and the ugly. They always shared good conversations and were constantly checking in on each other daily. Jerry has and always will be Travis's best friend. No one can deny the bond this father/son duo shared.
Jerry was a veteran of the US Army. He enjoyed grilling out, working on cars, riding/racing motorcycles and taking pictures. He loved to buy clothes and get dressed up for whatever occasion. He also loved his grandson, Aydin. It always put a smile on his face when Aydin came to visit. Papa Jerry was such a good grandpa and was constantly spoiling his grandson, but that's what the best grandpa's do right?
Last April 2019, Jerry suffered from a stroke and ended up needing more care than could be provided at home. Since then, he has resided at a skilled nursing facility. Travis made it a point to go spend time with his dad on a regular basis; bringing him "good" meals, giving him hair cuts, taking his grandson to visit him, making sure he was being taken care of and most of all, just showing his best friend love. Although Jerry had his ups and downs and encountered some other health issues, he always tried to see things in a positive light. His face always lit up the moment his best friend showed up.
On Saturday, May 9, 2020, we received a phone call that Jerry had unexpectedly passed away. The emotions that followed were unexplainable for Travis. Travis has been unable to visit his dad for the past 9 weeks due to covid. Although Travis has been updated on a regular basis regarding his dad's health, the was a complete curve ball. It's unclear what happened. What I do know, is that when we got to the facility to see Jerry that night, he looked so peaceful, as if he was just resting and waiting for us to come visit. The reality of it all is heartbreaking. Losing your best friend and dad will never be something you get over. For Travis, this is the most challenging time of his life and all support and prayers are appreciated.
With all this said, Jerry did not leave behind any type of funds to help pay for funeral expenses. We are asking for any support you may be able to contribute to help Travis with this. If you are unable to contribute, please know that prayers are always appreciated as well. Please continue to wrap your arms around Travis and support him during this very difficult time. Thank you in advance for anything you are able to do!
