Jerome Jenkins recovering from COVID-19

Anyone who knows or ever met Jerome, you know of his love for his family, his ludicrous work ethic, contagious laugh and his funny sense of humor. Unfortunately, that was interrupted when Jerome was infected with COVID.
In early August, Jerome was infected with the COVID-19 virus that developed into bi-lateral pneumonia. He spent more than 6 weeks at Mary Washington Hospital (Fredericksburg, VA) in ICU sedated, intubated and on a ventilator. We lost him twice due to his body going into respiratory distress and cardiac arrest. At one point, the doctors did not expect him to make it through the night, but thankfully, he did. He has since undergone almost 2 weeks of rehab to regain his strength to walk again, however, Jerome still needs to undergo lung rehabilitation and continue physical therapy. Although he is home, Jerome now has permanent lung scarring as well as other physical challenges due to the pneumonia. Jerome has a long road of recovery ahead of him. He is truly blessed and we are thankful for how far he has come battling this horrible virus.
We could use your help:
Several of you reached out and asked what can you do and how you can help. Because of the outpouring offers, we decided to open a Go Fund Me page. This fund will help cover current and future medical expenses, along with basic living expenses, now that our main source of income has been severely impacted. Due to Jerome’s inability to work, he will now rely on long-term disability. This will provide only 60% of his income. To give you an idea, the initial hospital bill for his current medical expenses was over $340,000. That does not including rehab. This has been a long and distressing journey for Jerome and like so many, recovering from COVID is just the beginning of an unknown cost as we continue to understand the long-term effects of this virus.
