Jerome Hofferden’s Funeral

On October 22nd, 2022 at 7:50am police knocked on the door of our family home and notified us that my brother Jerome Hofferden had passed away. Our hearts were immediately shattered, the news was completely unexpected. It left us hurt, confused, shocked and devastated. The police told us the landlord called asking them to do a welfare check on my brother because they had not seen him in a while and there was a smell coming from his apartment. When they arrived they found my brother laying in his bed with his sleep mask on, deceased. We’ve tried to wrap our heads around what happened but unfortunately his autopsy was concluded as an undetermined cause of death. We currently have to wait 2-3 weeks for the coroner to release his body to the funeral home.

Jerome was loving, caring, smart, determined, giving and just an overall amazing person. He spent his teens and early 20’s dedicated to football. He formed new and lasting relationships with many of his teammates and coaches, they became a second family to him. Everyone who shares a memory of him always says how nice he was. He gave respect to everyone, speaking to him just once made you feel like you knew him forever. He was a people person. He was loved by his son, parents, grandparents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, teammates, acquaintances and colleagues

Jerome went through a lot of obstacles in his last couple months before his death. He unfortunately was let go from his job, was having difficulties with his landlord and neighbours and he was also facing personal conflicts.

The sudden and unexpected nature of his death has left us reeling but also in a bind. We aren’t able to pay for the cost of his funeral on our own. Jerome passed away without insurance due to the loss of his job. His funeral costs are $9,468.97 and his cemetery costs are $5,130.20 totalling $14,599.17. We have received $1,000 in donations and have currently covered $3,600 we are asking for help with the remaining balance of $10,000.
