Back 2 Basics Academy (B2B) is a non-profit organization that provides healthy opportunities for young children in underserved communities throughout the Bronx and the surrounding boroughs of New York City including Westchester County.
B2B has an open-door policy where we do not turn any child away. We focus on developing the self-esteem in young children and teens -- many who have been declined opportunities from school programs and amateur athletic organizations. By teaching the foundation of the sport through teamwork, sportsmanship and conflict resolution while also instilling respect for themselves and those around them, a meaningful path towards discipline, responsibility, community pride, and a commitment to hard work is fostered.
Through caring staff and coaches, time is dedicated to developing the minds of student-athletes and educating their family on how to embrace the youth sports experience. In essence; we are committed to prioritizing the student-athlete over the scoreboard and guiding the family through the process.
Our organization is currently campaigning to raise $15,000 to purchase a 12-15 passenger van that will allow consistent and safe access to different locations where our student-athletes can engage with other programs and organizations outside of the city. Carpooling helps, yet it's not always efficient or available. 100% of the funds raised in this campaign will go directly to the purchase and registration of a gently used van to support our youth initiatives.
Our Athletic programs that will benefit from this campaign:
Believe-2-Be
Every Winter we provide teenage boys who have been cut or rejected from their high school basketball team, with an opportunity to play in a competitive High School league in Brewster, NY. This experience also includes group outings to a variety of social and educational events throughout the Tri-State area.
AAU / Travel Teams
Every Spring we conduct workouts for boys and girls to prepare as a travel team and to participate in a highly competitive AAU basketball circuit throughout the east coast.
Showcases / Exposure Opportunities
Throughout the entire year, for kids who exhibit strong work ethic and academic excellence, we provide access to showcases and camps where college coaches attend and where entry is normally by invite-only or a sizable payment is required. Through the many relationships attained over the years, B2B Academy has been able to offer many of these opportunities to NYC area kids free of charge or at a discounted affordable rate for almost 20 years.

o The “Power Within” Women’ Empowerment Workshop
o Entrepreneurship and Careers In Sports forums
o Literacy & Careers in Literature Workshops
