Hello, my name is Buck Squires and I am raising funds to pay for the cremation and final expenses of my grandmother, Jeri Castillo. Jeri passed away Saturday August 26th at 2:00AM.
She was admitted to the emergency room in Hillsboro and was soon transferred to the ICU at OHSU hospital in Portland on Friday August 18th. While I’m the ICU, she received 3 debridement surgeries for what was originally thought to be an abdominal abscess. On the morning on August 24th, they took her in for an exploratory surgery as her wounds were not healing and she was having complications with them. This surgery would revealed that she had suffered a bowel obstruction which lead to them rupturing. They were hoping to do a Colostomy bag and that should have fixed the issues she was having, and once recovered could have lead to a semi-normal life. Unfortunately that night she required 8 liters of fluids to keep her blood pressure up and they were forced to do another exploratory surgery the morning of Friday the 25th, which revealed that she was bleeding into her abdominal cavity which they were hoping to do an additional surgery to figure out what was causing that which was planning for Saturday morning. This started the conversation of what we wanted the doctors to do in the event that things did not go well, which we as a family decided it was in her best interest to not subject her to the trauma of life saving measures in the event that her heart stopped because that was her body’s way of saying that it was time. She declined further into Friday evening and her heart started to fail, at that point we decided that it was time to just keep her comfortable. She passed peacefully at 2:00AM Saturday morning.
The proceeds from this fundraiser are to go towards cremation services and her final expenses, as well as gas money for the trip to Monument Oregon to spread her ashes with her parent and with her son. As to respect her wishes, we will not be having a proper funeral service, but a celebration of life get together will be planning for the future for any friends and family that would like to meet and share stories. This will be planning at a later date and will be updated accordingly.
I thank each and every person that has already reached out and will continue to do so with well wishes and their support for myself and the family in this difficult time. You all are appreciated more than I can properly convey.
