Jeremy's Journey to Recovery

Donation protected
My name is Jennifer, and I am starting this GoFundMe page for my cousin Lindsey. I am asking for your help to support her family during this difficult time. Lindsey's husband Jeremy Morris had a very severe one-car accident (likely due to an acute medical event that caused him to lose consciousness) in the Morris, Alabama area on July 28, 2024 as he was on his way to work. Jeremy turned 39 years old just a few days before his car wreck. Jeremy and Lindsey had recently experienced the blessing of their first child, a daughter named Harper, who was just 6 months old at the time of her dad's accident.

Jeremy has remained hospitalized at UAB in Birmingham, AL since his wreck. Initially Jeremy had several surgeries to treat his head wound, stabilize his spine, and repair some broken bones in his leg. He was on a ventilator (machine that helped him breathe) for almost 2 months and required dialysis plus a feeding tube until just recently. He developed pneumonia and sepsis, which meant he had to return to the ICU and was in very critical condition several times.

Throughout all of this, our family has seen God answer many prayers and work miracles in Jeremy's recovery, and in early October Jeremy was able to transfer out of the main hospital into the inpatient rehab portion. Thankfully Jeremy's speech and cognitive functioning is intact! However, Jeremy has very limited movement and will require extensive therapies and rehabilitation in order to reach his full recovery potential.

Current need: The family is looking at the possibility of transferring Jeremy to a specialized neurorehabilitation center out of state, one that has an excellent reputation but is not covered by their insurance. Fees at that rehab facility would cost over $5000 per day, but going through this program could allow Jeremy to regain daily independence that will be crucial for his family's future.

In addition to the rehab center, there will be many expensive needs in the coming months. When Jeremy is ready to come home, their house will need major modifications to make it wheelchair accessible. He will require a sitter during the days, lots of adaptive equipment, and likely a different vehicle. Lindsey has not even started to receive the bills from the hospital - I cannot imagine how large those will be!

For the last 3 months, Lindsey has been taking care of her baby at home, plus her husband at the hospital, all while working full-time as a registered nurse. She has never once asked anyone for money, and she wouldn't now except that I begged her to let us help! I told her there are very few people who are wealthy enough to handle an unexpected crisis of this magnitude. Therefore, I am asking friends, family, and even total strangers to rally around this sweet little family and help them financially. We are praying for a full recovery for Jeremy, but this is going to be a long and hard journey. From the bottom of our hearts, our family greatly appreciates your thoughts, prayers, and support.
