Jeremy’s Journey to Recovering from Brain Injury

Hello, my name is Heidi and on August 14, 2021 my son Jeremy suffered a catastrophic Anoxic Brain Injury due to hospital error. He is now in a semi-vegetative state and will never be the same. This is the worst nightmare a parent could go through. This has been devastating to me, his brother, and our extended family. We could never imagine our lives without him. We have felt every emotion humanly possible since this tragedy has occurred.

 

Jeremy is a kind soul that always put others first. He loves with his whole heart and embraces life with compassion. His dream was to become a movie producer/director. He has made countless short films as well as his latest film, a documentary, which has been many years in the making. All he had left to do to complete it was to edit the sound when tragedy struck.

 

He has suffered many setbacks while in the hospital including four bouts of pneumonia, three cardiac arrests, sepsis, staph infections, and COVID-19. Additionally, his jaw is dislocated from being intubated and needs a second surgery in the future.

 

Despite these setbacks that he has endured he is still fighting for his life. He can breathe on his own, which we were originally told would never happen. He can also smile, blink twice for “yes”, and wiggle his fingers and toes. As of this week, he has started to laugh.

 

He desperately needs a hospital that specializes in intensive treatment for hypoxic brain injuries. Please help my son make it to TIRR Brain Rehabilitation Center in Houston, Texas. This lifesaving treatment is his only chance at a somewhat happy and productive life.

 

There are still many unknowns with Jeremy’s journey, but we remain positive and hopeful for the best outcome. We created this GoFundMe page to meet the ongoing medical needs and expenses for Jeremy’s recovery.
