Hello and thank you for taking the time to read about a wonderful, brave, patient man in need of some help—Jeremy Messenbrink.
The time has finally come for Jeremy to get a heart transplant, his life saving surgery. As this is a major surgery, you can imagine the risks and long recovery inherent in the process. I have witnessed his everyday struggles mentally, physically, and financially. However, he never gives up; he never stops helping; he never quits. Jeremy is truly a man, ironically, with a heart of gold! Though he has known over the years that this transplant was coming, now, in just days, Jeremy will be undergoing major heart surgery and a long recovery.
Diagnosed at the age of 25. Jeremy had spent 12 years dealing with genetic and idiopathic congestive heart failure. With that news, he persevered to turn a devastating diagnosis into a positive future. Jeremy moved to Colorado in 2016 and began his fresh start in Fort Collins CO; starting a new company, finding new friends, and discovering great health care. His health and happiness were coming back to life, and after years of dealing with no heart function, he glimpsed hope when doctors told him that he, miraculously, worked back up to 65% ejection fraction. Essentially meaning Jeremy was approaching full function. Yes! Such great news! Then, tragically, months later(at the age of 35) he received an unexpected electrical shock to the heart and contracted COVID-19. To someone so vulnerable to any sickness, Jeremy got hit hard. So hard that his heart function went down to 15-20% with 3 failing heart valves. After working for years to increase his health and heart function, this was a devastating blow. At this time, Jeremy and his team of cardiologists had no other choice and decided it was time to act and get him the scary heart transplant... So he’s currently on the list, no idea where but living with the hope of “on the list”.
Doctors told him it could be soon or it could be a long time because Jeremy has a rare (O negative) blood type. And so, waiting, doing all he can do in his days — some good and some bad and some very frustrating. The things he used to be able to do he can no longer do. After years of waiting and staying strong and positive with the struggles, we have a chance! Within days Jeremy will be admitted in the process of getting higher on the transplant list. The help he needs to start his recovery is here! The news is great, though worrisome and stressful. Jeremy will be hospitalized for weeks, likely longer. As such, the financials pile up and snowball— bills, rent, medications, new diet, dog food and care. Pretty much everything that’s part of daily life. And these are the things Jeremy needs your help with while he focuses on healing and getting his health back. He’s not the kind of man to ask for help. Always pursuing some passion or telling a hilarious story or working hard. Help me help him ease his mind a little bit. Thank you. Truly thank you for supporting this always smiling man. Please help support by sharing this with others.
