Jeremy's Second Chance at Life

Friends of the Mccrimmon Family:

Now is the time to show up. A lot of us have been asking what we can do, how we can support Rachele and the kids, and saying, "Please let me know if you need anything!" I know we all sincerely mean this - we love Jeremy and Rachele so much! But let's not let this become a cliché phrase - here and now is how you can show up.

On the late afternoon of July 26, Jeremy finished a quick run around the neighborhood, and was chatting with his neighbor, Angela.  Feeling a little faint, he collapsed. Angela, whom Jeremy and Rachele now call their "angel", immediately screamed for someone to call 911 and began CPR. Jeremy had gone into cardiac arrest.

About to enjoy a girls' weekend, Rachele was with friends about 10 minutes from home when she got the frantic call.  After rushing back, she and her friends found the paramedics still performing CPR. Jeremy endured 25 minutes of CPR total, and received three shocks from a defibrillator.  After finding a weak pulse and loading him into the ambulance, the lead paramedic asked Rachele if she wanted to see a chaplain, and prepared her for the worst - this was life and death.  Jeremy was taken to Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, and Rachele followed in a cop car.   The kids stayed behind with a neighbor until Rachele's parents could return from a wedding in Tacoma.

Jeremy was stabilized in the emergency room, and was talking and responding normally. It was if nothing had happened.  He told Rachele he was dreaming of playing baseball. He was down with two strikes, and that he was going to swing. He was going to hit a home run! He heard the crowd chanting his name.  It turns out, it was the paramedics yelling his name as they treated him.

So began dozens of tests, medications and treatments to find out WHY - why did a healthy, young 42 year old man with a successful career at the shipyard, a great marriage and three adorable kids, suddenly go into cardiac arrest?  After hours of waiting, the doctors concluded that Jeremy had heart disease brought on by genetics.  Jeremy had no signs or symptoms, and no family history.

After an angiogram, doctors found 3 (and possibly 4) blockages in the arteries around his heart - one with a 99% blockage.  Jeremy immediately underwent a procedure to insert three stents.

After more tests and doctor consultations, it was determined that Jeremy would need a pacemaker and an implantable cardioverter defibrillator, and be on a variety of medications for years to come - some for the rest of his life.

Once Jeremy is released from the hospital, he will have lots of physical therapy, doctors' appointments and monitoring. His physical healing will likely take several months to a year. While they are so thankful and praise God to have Jeremy still here on earth, Rachele and the kids will certainly need some time to heal emotionally.   The family was planning on moving in mid-August to Japan with Jeremy's job for the next three years - this is now all put on hold, and the future is unknown.

One thing Jeremy has repeated, is that "God is GOOD! He has a plan!" Above all, the Mccrimmons value your prayers for healing, courage, strength and endurance - and that they would face this trial well, in a way that would bring glory to God. While we wait to see what God will reveal to the Mccrimmons and to us, let's lift our friends up in prayer continually in the coming weeks and months.

This is also where WE can step up in a BIG way.  A week's long stay in the hospital, the ambulance transport, the procedures and equipment, subsequent doctors' appointments - all of this will quickly add up.  Jaxson is also in the process of completing oral immunotherapy (OIT) for his tree nut allergy - a potentially life saving, but expensive treatment. His appointments take place in Bellevue.

We, as their family and friends, can help alleviate the financial stresses that are certainly on their way.  We've all said, "Let me know if you need anything!"  This fundraiser will meet a HUGE need for them. We all know they would never ask for anything, and this is how we can surround them with love and support.

Let's blow this goal out of the water! You can give anonymously, or leave a public comment for the family. Thank you so much for prayerfully and generously giving to this cause.
