Jeremy vs. Guillian-Barré
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Lindsey and I’m starting this fund for my life-long friend, Jeremy Bertke.
Anyone who has spent more than a minute with Jeremy knows his terribly witty, ironic humor. Maybe fewer get to know his incredible determination and resilience. But those core qualities will become critical in the coming months....
On Tuesday, November 14, Jeremy was feeling so poorly after a respiratory bug that he went to the emergency room, only to be sent home. The following evening he collapsed, and Jeremy’s wife, Ronda, had to call an ambulance….
Jeremy was paralyzed from the neck down. At the hospital, he was diagnosed with Guillian-Barré syndrome (pronounced ghee-yan bar-ray), a very rare and serious condition affecting the nervous system. Although he received intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) therapy to prevent any further impairment, Jeremy had unfortunately already suffered severe nerve damage and lost the use of both of his arms and legs.
Although there is hope for a full recovery, it will be a long road: Jeremy will need to endure weeks to months of hospitalization, and at least one year of intense physical therapy, during which time it will be impossible for him to work. And Ronda will need to be there with him every step of the way….
A lot of people have asked how they can help, so I’m setting up this fundraiser to give people the opportunity to donate and hopefully help Jeremy better focus on his recovery.
Please help Jeremy fight this battle against Guillain–Barré. Every contribution helps, and will make a positive impact on Jeremy’s recovery ❤️
