Jeremy Lemons Life Saving Y90 Procedure

Many of you know my sister and her husband Jeremy and know how much he is loved and how important he is to our family. For anyone who doesn’t know Jeremy’s story, Jeremy was diagnosed with colorectal cancer with metastasis to his liver in 2019 at the age of 38. As you can imagine, this has turned their world upside down. Following his diagnosis, Jeremy has endured along road of chemotherapy and multiple major surgeries to be where is today. He has been an absolute warrior and continues to fight every single day.

Sadly, on his most recent routine CT scan they have discovered a recurrence on his liver that, due to the size and location of the lesion, have determined is inoperable. Therefore, at his point, the options are extremely limited. Jeremy can prepare for another round of traditional chemo, or thankfully he qualifies for a procedure called Y90.

Y90 is a radiotherapy where millions of tiny radioactive beads are injected directly into the arteries that supply blood to your tumor. These beads allow very strong radiation to reach the tumor directly instead of treating the whole liver or his entire body with chemotherapy. Jeremy's oncology team and radiologist are confident that because Jeremy’s liver is otherwise healthy, depending on how aggressive they can be, the radiation could kill the tumor while leaving the rest of his liver undamaged. The treatment consists of multiple procedures over about a month and a half and is incredibly expensive. Unattainable for most ordinary people, the procedure costs almost $500,000!! So, even with insurance and financial aid they are left to pay 10% of that. And because of the excessive cost, they are required to pay it UPFRONT. Jeremy and Cayla have exhausted all the financial options that they have available to them – Cayla has even considered drawing from her 401k but is unable to do so without leaving her employer. So, now, I am reaching out to their friends, family, and community on their behalf. Anyone who knows them knows that they would not ask unless it was a last resort but this is a lifesaving surgery and is the only alternative to another round of full body chemo for Jeremy.
