Jeremy Holden was a husband, son, brother, friend, and colleague, but to Seth and Jude Bennett, he was simply Uncle Jeremy.
Jeremy was always close to his nephews, but his relationship to them took on special meaning when their mother, Sarah Boor Bennett, tragically and suddenly passed away in October of 2015 (when Jude was just 12, and Seth just 9). Jeremy had always been very close to Sarah – and credited her for bringing him and her sister, Abby, together.
The days that followed Sarah’s death were incredibly difficult, and Jeremy was there for Seth and Jude – and also beautifully eulogized their mother despite his own tremendous grief. In fact, he made a vow to be there for the boys, always. Although there was geographic distance with Abby and Jeremy living in D.C., and then Raleigh, that commitment remained until the day Jeremy passed, and we very much believe he would have wanted it to continue after his death.
When Jude graduated from Camden Military Academy, Jeremy and Abby made the trip to see him graduate and celebrate this milestone. Jeremy made sure that Jude had the emotional, financial and healthcare support he needed to get on a solid path, and to continue to heal after the trauma of losing his mother at such a young age. In short, Jeremy had his back, as he had promised.
With Seth, Jeremy shared a love for all things Ohio State University - especially football! Seth was so young when his mother passed, but even at that tender age, he was demonstrating a real talent for math, and critical thinking (just like his Grandma Mary Ann Boor). Seth has always been a lover of all animals and games. Jeremy was looking forward to being there post-graduation to help Seth get on the right path into adulthood. Sadly, he won’t get that opportunity.
We are setting up this fund to continue the vow that Jeremy began – to always be there for Seth and Jude. Simply said, it’s what Jeremy would have most wanted.
