Howdy. My name is Liz and my husband and I are raising money to pay off medical bills. On Decemeber 20, 2021, I went into my clinic for a blood pressure check, and my blood pressure was over 180, I had gained 83 lbs in 1.5 months, and my oxygen was at 83%. They sent me by ambulance to the emergency room. I spent the night in the emergency room until they could find an open bed in another hospital. I spent 8 days at the hospital in Amery, WI. I was diagnosed with Acute on Chronic Respiratory Failure with Hypoxia and Hypercapnia, Pulmonary Hypertension, and Severe Sleep Apnia, which are big fancy words for my lungs weren't working and I wasn't sleeping. I was also diagnosed with high blood pressure, diabetes, hypothyroidism, and the CO2 levels in my blood were at 75%. Basically, my body was shutting down. They took great care of me at Amery, and got me to a place where it was safe to send me home. I was sent home with oxygen and needing to do a sleep study and loads of follow-up appointments with various doctors.
9 months later, I have lost 200 lbs, I only need oxygen when I'm being active, and my blood pressure and diabetes are under control. I use a Bi-PAP machine for my sleep apnia and rent a wheel chair for my physical limitations. My doctors tell me to keep doing what I'm doing and that I will hopefully be able to get off most of the meds and oxygen, and get rid of the wheel chair as I get stronger and keep healing.
We did not have health insurance, but we did have Christian Healthcare Ministries, which paid off about $40,000 of the bills. I was able to get health insurance through Marketplace, which has been a blessing but doesn't cover everything. We have bills left over that CHM didn't cover, and more bills from various tests and medical equipment that insurance doesn't cover completely. I am still waiting to hear from Social Security to see if I qualify for disability. I also haven't been able to work because of all of my physical limitations, needing oxygen, and having multiple appointments throughout the week.
So that's our story. Thank you for taking the time to read it. Anything helps, and if you can't afford to give any money, we appreciate prayers and good thoughts. Thanks!
