Our family has come together to create this gofundme page for our brother Jeremy Buczek who was recently and unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage 3 testicular cancer, also known as Metastatic non seminomatous germ cell cancer stage IIIB. It is unimaginable that at the young age of 36 years old, going to the ER for a hard time breathing would be a cancer diagnosis, much less that it has spread to the stomach, lungs, and lymph nodes.

On this very October, Jeremy went to the emergency room with chest pain and a persistent cough that he had sought out treatment for twice before. We were all blindsided when he got an advanced cancer diagnosis. Even worse was when we found out that the cancer had metastasized further into his body. There were no warning signs. After experiencing these crushing blows, the worst was not over as we found out that his health care coverage through his job, Chipotle did not provide any assistance for chemotherapy treatments. This was devastating since we were told by Roswell that his tumor was rapidly growing and he needed to start aggressive chemotherapy right away. Never one to back down from a fight, even one as big as this, our family was able to get him new health insurance through the state that had chemo coverage but at a much higher premium.
With this new insurance, he was admitted to Roswell to start the treatment a mere 2 weeks after his diagnosis. Since his cancer is so advanced, he is being treated in Roswell so they can monitor his internal organs. It is a very strong chemotherapy cycle that cannot be done outpatient. He has successfully completed his first round. The treatment plan consists of 4 total rounds of chemo each consisting of five days in the hospital, then 16 days home. While we thank god for a 70% survival rate, this is just the beginning of our brother's battle.
Our brother is our goofball. He loves making Chewbacca sounds instead of saying hello. He'll do anything to put a smile on our faces. He loves putting on pajama onesies with his wife and going on about his normal day like its nothing. Growing up, he was our protector, our confidant, our dare devil. Getting into trouble since we were in diapers. We had no way of knowing that something was going wrong inside him. Most people after this insane chain of events would be understandably feeling defeated. But not Jeremy. His first thoughts were, "I am going to fight this. It's NOT going to beat me."
Jeremy's doctor advised him that he would not be able to work for one year and that is pending on the success with his treatment plan. My brother, the sole provider of his family for himself and his wife, will be focused on fighting this cancer. And we will be focused on helping him win. Because in this family - No one fights alone. We have each other's backs.
We are graciously asking for your help through one of three ways. Making a donation which will help him to afford the chemotherapy that is required to have a fighting chance against this cancer. The money raised will also go towards paying the new health insurance, the copays, and general living expenses (utilities, car, gas, groceries, etc.If you cannot make a donation, as these Covid times are trying, we ask that you share this page on your social media. We are also asking for prayers. Keep our brother in your hearts as you send healing prayers or vibes of strength to keep in him good spirits.
We will continue to send updates during his journey. We are so so grateful for the outpouring of love and support received so far.
XOXO
