I have decided to create this fundraising page for my brother Jeremy Barnhart. As you may know, Jeremy was in a car accident 16 years ago that left him blind. Jeremy has raised his two children solely on his own, with help from our mother and myself. His son Jacob has High Functioning Down Syndrome, and needs special treatment from Jeremy. Due to his blindness, Jeremy is on a fixed income and is only allowed to make a certain amount of money monthly in order to keep his medicare insurance. The insurance companies only pay for a certain amount of medical needs. There is a new product out, The Orcam My Eye, which helps to improve the everyday life of people with loss of vision. This device recognizes faces, money, reads menus, school papers, and even food labels. It directly speaks into a device that is placed in the ear. The cost of the Orcam My Eye is $4500.00. We have spoken with the company and the insurance company. Medicare will not pay for this device because they do not classify it at medically needed. I agree that it isn't medically needed, but would make Jeremy's life so much easier. This is a new year, and I want to start his off right. Let's all come together and help raise the money for Jeremy to get this awesome device. Any amount will help.
