A few weeks ago, Jeremy received some shocking news that has rocked him and his family's world. Jeremy had a lump on his neck and went to get it checked out; soon after he was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma. This cancer affects the immune and lymphatic system with an 80% chance of success with chemotherapy.
Jeremy will begin chemo in July, at Peter Mac. He will undergo 6 months of treatment, in 4 week cycles, during these cycles he will be hooked up to the chemo drugs on day 1 and 15, spending the day in the hospital. The 7 days after each dose of chemo will be the hardest for him and his family due to the side effects. Some of the most common side effects can include hair loss, fatigue, nausea, being far more susceptible to picking up germs, loss of appetite and fevers. He will undergo blood tests before each treatment to ensure his blood cell counts, kidney and liver are all functioning at an acceptable level to ensure he can have the next treatment. Any issues around this can delay the next treatment and he may then need blood transfusions.
The main goal of the chemo is to shrink and get rid of the tumors, and ultimately rid his body of this cancer!
As he begins treatment, the emotional, physical, and financial toll will be overwhelming. With Jeremy unable to work (his work has been amazing in donating some leave already!) and medical bills mounting, as well as Kim being on maternity leave and raising their baby girl Goldie, it will be an extremely tough time for them. We are asking for your help to help ease the financial burden they are about to face.
No matter the amount of the donation, it would be so very appreciated from this beautiful young family. The donations will go towards some of the medical costs, monthly bills, parenting/house expenses and everyday living costs.
If you’re up for donating blood or plasma, now would be the time:
