Jeremiah's Heart Treatment

Dear Friends and Family,

**FEBRUARY 19 UPDATE**

With full gratitude and humility, I am reaching out today in support of my father, Jeremiah Abrams. He is hospitalized in Bali, in a compromised state medically, and he is in need of financial support. He has a critical need for several surgical procedures to increase the blood flow to his heart.

For those of you who do not know me, my name is Rachael Abrams and I live in New York. My dad, Jeremiah, is a well-loved therapist and writer who has been living in Bali for more than 10 years. He has dedicated his career and practice to helping others in their time of need. He is also a wonderful father, grandfather, and dear friend to many.

His heart condition came to light suddenly in November last year. It became apparent he was not well after experiencing persistent vertigo. A medical assessment revealed he had dangerously high blood pressure, and an EKG showed a blockage in his aortic blood vessels. He was referred to the Siloam Hospital in Bali, where the cardiologist ordered an immediate angioplasty procedure to insert a stent to open his blood vessels.

My dad has now had one successful angioplasty procedure that increased blood flow to his heart via the insertion of a stent in his most vital artery, which was 90% blocked. During that procedure it was discovered that he needed two or three more stents, though they might not all be done at the same time. The hospital in Bali required an upfront deposit and payment in full for the first procedure. This procedure and related costs came to $20,000, which was generously loaned to him by a friend, who needs to be repaid.

The first procedure increased his blood flow, but he is now taking 10 different medications to manage the condition. This situation has prevented him from working steadily for months.

The cardiologist has concluded that the next angioplasty procedure is required as soon as Jeremiah’s blood pressure can be stabilized. The remaining problematic arteries have three blocks restricting the blood flow by 99%. The risk of going back to the US to have the procedure done is too great as he is now in a compromised state. The care in Bali has been excellent.

My dad’s travel medical insurer has delayed a decision on his claim for two months. We expect them to deny the claim because his travel dates are outside the policy requirements. We simply cannot wait any longer, due to the urgency of his medical situation.

The cost of the remaining stent insertions will be $40,000, plus associated costs. Additional costs to be covered are for pre-hospital appointments, pre-admission testing, EKG scans, 6 or 7 nights in the hospital, medication and transportation. If anything remains after these expenses have been paid, it will be put towards living expenses until dad can return to work.

My dad does not have savings to cover these costs, and these procedures are essential to prolong his life. Therefore, we, his dear friends and children, have come together to create this Go Fund Me campaign on his behalf, to support him through this challenging time and to provide this life-saving treatment.

Because my dad is in the hospital and focusing on his health, I am managing the campaign and will be transferring all the donations directly to his Bank of America account as soon as possible. He will pay the hospital in Bali and repay the friend who covered the first procedure. The Go Fund Me residency requirements prevent him from  withdrawing the funds directly to his own account, as he is not currently a US resident.

Anything you are able to contribute is incredibly appreciated. Thank you so much for your love and support. Please feel welcome to share.

With Infinite Love & Gratitude,

Rachael Abrams, Phil Abrams, and Friends of Jeremiah
